The year is 2018, and it was my first time being away from home. We were about two months into the fall semester. One day after my 8 a.m. class, I attended an NAACP meeting held on campus. We were prompted to rise from our seats and introduce ourselves once we were called on. As we were about to begin our introductions, there was someone who had just made it in and sat in the very back. It was her. They called on her to introduce herself as she was already standing. It was as though there was a light that stood over her, and the rest of the room became dim. She left before the meeting ended. Time advances, and I finally see her again. There she was in the courtyard, outside of the university center. She worked on an assignment for her English class as she sat at a table that had an umbrella overhead to provide shade. She wore a striped rainbow colored shirt and a jean skirt with sandals. Her hair was curly and tucked behind one ear, continuously pushing up her glasses to make sure they didn’t fall. I decided to approach her. I didn’t know exactly what to say but I couldn’t be silent. I said to her, “Hey, what are you working on?” Little did I know, I had just met my forever.
